Old Hymns

Choruses and old hymns were a part of my early childhood as my mother took us to church every week. Here are a few favorites.

When we all get to heaven

I have specially put this old hymn in here because I want to mention a book I have just read. It is called: ‘Revealing Heaven’ by Kat Kerr. It is one of the most fantastic books on heaven and hell that I have ever read. I have read many books on the subject, but it is so easy to read, you could probably do it in about two hours. I want to urge everyone to get it and read it. It is available from Amazon. The Lord has taken this lady to heaven many times, and it is such a fun place, you will want to go right away. Her description of hell will want you never to go there. She says how many people don’t think a loving God can send anyone to hell, but she says people send themselves there by rejecting Christ. So she says we must receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, and repent of our sins to get in there. Please read the book. It is one of the most important books in the whole world.

When the roll is called up yonder by Craig Anderson

This was my favourite old hymn when I was little. I have chosen this version of the song because it has the story behind the song. Just click on the appropriate arrow, and you can read it for yourself. This gentleman’s version of the song is slightly different from what I grew up with, but it is a blessing. The words are printed on the screen, and some of them are again different from what I knew, but the main thing is that we must be ready when the roll is called. I have written a couple of songs on that subject myself.

O Happy Day by Edwin Hawkins and Singers

My mother told me that they sang this old hymn when she got baptized in the fish pond by a gas station in Salisbury, Rhodesia. So it has a special meaning to me. The words of the hymn are very good words too. I had Elvis singing here but somebody took him off, so I have replaced him with Edwin Hawkins and Singers.

Higher Ground by Claire Holley

When I was a kid I used to associate this song with Table Mountain in Cape Town. “I long to scale the utmost heights, though rough the way, and hard the fight.” We used British hymn books, and sometimes the words are different from the American hymn books.

Power in the Blood by The Hee Haw Gospel Quartet

Some years back, someone gave me a video of Ron Wyatt where he explains how the Lord showed him that the Ark of the Covenant was in Jeremiah’s grotto in Jerusalem. He explains how he found it in a stone box, and drilled a hole in the side and used a medical thing to look inside. The same thing they put in people’s stomachs to see inside. He said the top of the box was cracked and black stuff had dripped down onto the mercy seat. The full story is that when Jesus died, there was an earthquake, and the rocks under the cross split. The Roman soldier pierced his side, and the blood tricked down the crack onto the mercy seat located below. This fulfilled the Old Testament story of the high priest sprinkling blood on the mercy seat once a year to cover the sins of the people. Christ as our high priest, has done it once and for all. There is power in the blood of Jesus to forgive all our sins forever. Click on this story of Ron Wyatt and the testing of the blood sample of Jesus. Ron Wyatt and the testing of Jesus’ blood sample

An old hymn: Face to face

It is a very sobering thought that we will all one day be face to face with Jesus, for better or for worse. He will be the judge one day, and will determine whether we are saved or lost.

Just as I am by Emily Gray

This is one of the very holy old hymns that Billy Graham used in his meetings when he invited people to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you have never received Jesus Christ as your Savior, John his disciple wrote: “That as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.” John 1,12 (King James Version). Just say a prayer, and receive Jesus Christ, God’s son as your savior, and ask him to wash away all your sins. Amen.

What a friend we have in Jesus

This is an oldie but a goodie. We all need a friend that we can turn to. My daughter says it sounds like ‘The Isaacs.’ On the internet it just says ‘Southern Gospel.’

I also have a Gospel web site. If you want to check it out, go to:  http://countrygospelandbible.com/
