Favourite Romantic Love Songs

I have about 50 Favourite Romantic Love Songs, and I will list some of them here. Most of these I know off by heart, but I might slip up on a few words here and there. Sometimes I change words to suit myself.

1. You’re the nearest thing to heaven

Some girls are stunningly beautiful, and this songs gives an insight into how important the girl is to the guy. “I’ve sailed the peaceful waters of the oceans deep and blue. I’ve held my breath and watched the western sunset’s golden hue. I’ve flown above the mountain tops, of valleys wide and green, but you’re the nearest thing to heaven that I’ve seen.”

2. Blue Hawaii

When I watched the movie, this song was used in the beginning, but it would have been very effective as a romantic scene with Elvis on the beach in the moonlight. “Night and you, and Blue Hawaii, the night is heavenly, and you are heaven to me. Lovely you, and Blue Hawaii, with all this loveliness, there should be love.” This is one of my favourite romantic love songs.

3. Let the little bird fly

I can’t find this song on the web, but I have a record of Charlie Rich singing it, and it brings back memories of the house we lived in when I was a teenager, and the sweet girl Margaret who lived down the street. “She came into my life one spring, swinging her doll on an old tire swing. She was just ten, and I’d just turned thirteen.”

4. I love you because

I first heard this song by Jim Reeves, and I longed to find a girl who could understand me. My wife seems to understand me more than most people I have ever met. “I love you because you understand dear, every single thing I try to do. You’re always there to lend a helping hand dear, but most of all I love you ’cause you’re you.”

5. One of my Favourite Romantic Love Songs – Kiss me quick

Elvis sang so many romantic numbers. “Kiss me quick, while we still have this feeling, hold me close, and never let me go, for tomorrows can be so uncertain, love can fly and leave just hurting, so kiss me quick, because I love you so.”

6. I won’t forget you

Some people I have known, I can’t forget. Each person is so special in their own particular way. “I know that I won’t forget you, for I’ve loved you too much for too long. Though you don’t want me now, I’ll still love you, till the breath in my body is gone.”

7. I’ve enjoyed as much of this as I can stand

“You look lovelier tonight than I remember. I’m so glad I got to see you once again.” The beginning words in this song are so nice, but it gets a bit sad later on. It holds a lot of memories for me.

8. Wooden Heart

I went through a big heartbreak with my mother, and this song took on a whole new meaning. “Can’t you see I love you? Please don’t break my heart in two, that’s not hard to do, ’cause I don’t have a wooden heart. And if you say ‘Goodbye’ then I know that I will cry, maybe I would die, ’cause I don’t have a wooden heart.”

9. Blueberry Hill

“I found my thrill, on Blueberry Hill, on Blueberry Hill, where I found you. The moon stood still, on Blueberry Hill, and it lingered until, my dreams came true.” To be in the car, kissing in the moonlight on the hill, is so exciting. I still sing this in my mind so I guess it is one of my favourite romantic love songs.

10. Teddy Bear

“Baby let me be, your loving Teddy Bear, put a chain around my neck and lead me anywhere, oh let me be, your Teddy Bear. Baby let me be, ’round you every night , run your fingers through my hair , and cuddle up me real tight, oh let me be, your Teddy Bear.” I always wanted a girl to run her fingers through my hair.

11. You belong to my heart

When I was young, this song seemed so fantastic, that a girl could blow a kiss with her eyes. Then I could hear a million guitars playing! “‘Twas a moment like this, don’t you remember? When your eyes blew a kiss, when they met mine. Now we own all the stars, and a million guitars are still playing. Darling you are the one, and you’ll always belong to my heart.”

12. Please help me I’m falling

I heard this song when I was in my early teens, and it seemed so tragic, and yet so real. Some people are so easy to love, that we have to put the brakes on, so we don’t cross over the cheating line. “Please help me I’m falling in love with you, close the door to temptation, don’t let me walk through. Turn away from me darling, I’m begging you to. Please help me I’m falling, in love with you.”

13. It’s now or never

Sometimes love gets desperate. We all need love, and have to find it somewhere and somehow. “It’s now or never, come hold me tight. Kiss me my darling, be mine tonight.”

14. You’re the only good thing that’s happened to me

“We have our ups and downs, like all lovers do, but you know in your heart, that I adore you. So don’t ever think of setting me free, you’re the only good thing that’s happened to me.” I changed one word here because worship is reserved for God. We mustn’t worship a human being, because none of us are perfect, we all have our faults and failures.

15. All shook up

“Well a bless my soul a what’s a wrong with me? I’m a itching like a man on a fuzzy tree. My friends say I’m acting wild as a bug – I’m in love!” Love can mix people up and make them act all crazy.

16. Baby I don’t care

“You don’t like a hot rod racing, you don’t like a rocking bands, you just wanna park where it’s nice and dark, and kiss and hold me tight, you’re so square, Baby I don’t care.” The main thing is love, but it helps if you can marry someone who has similar interests as you, and similar religious beliefs.

17. Blue skies

“Never saw the sun shining so bright, never saw things going so right. Noticing the days hurrying by, when you’re in love, my how they fly.” Where I grew up in Africa, we had blue skies every day.

18. Won’t you wear my ring

“They say that going steady is not the proper thing. They say that we’re too young to know the meaning of a ring. I only know that I love you, and that a you love me too, so Darling this is what I beg of you.” When I was a kid and heard this song, it seemed so fantastic. I loved the drums and the music and the way the Jordanaires sang with Elvis.

19. Oh boy

“Stars appear and the shadows a fallin’, a you can hear a my heart’s a callin’, a little bit o’ loving puts a ev’rything a right, so I’m a gonna see a my a baby tonight.” When I was a little boy, this song was a hit, and it seemed so wonderful to be in love.

20. When the girl in your arms

“When the girl in your arms, is the girl in your heart, then you have everything.” One time by the fireside in our garden, my brother in law requested for me to sing this song. There is a lot of truth to the words.

21. You’re my best friend

“You placed gold on my finger, you brought love, like I’ve never known. You gave life to our children, and to me, a reason to go on.” Everyone needs a friend and a partner, or else life is not complete. A favourite romantic love song.

22. Wolverton Mountain

“Her tender lips are sweeter than honey.” This was another hit when I was a kid, and it seemed so exciting. Someone had a video on the internet with beautiful pictures depicting each scene of the song, but it was taken off. Pity.

23. Lucky lips

“Lucky lips are always kissing, lucky lips are never blue.” Cliff Richard had a big hit with this one, and we all wished we could be as lucky as him.

24. Traveling light

“I just can’t wait to be with my baby tonight.” This one takes me back to traveling down on the South Coast of Natal. Somebody said once that the road to a friend’s house is never long.

25. All I have to do is dream

“I can make you mine, taste your lips of wine, anytime, night or day, only trouble is , gee wiz, I’m dreaming my life away.” Most of my life I have lived in a dream world, because it is more exciting than the real world.

26. ‘D’ in love

“You need a fortnight’s a kissing, you need to practice a nightly a hugging, you gotta squeeze move tightly, I recommend this a remedy – a lots and lots and lots and lots of a homework with me.” At high school this song seemed outrageous, but I secretly wished I could be a good lover.

27. I need your love tonight

“I’ve been a waiting just a for tonight, to do some loving and a holding you tight.” Elvis was our hero, and we all wished we could be as good looking and romantic as him.

28. Save the last dance for me

“But don’t forget who’s taking you home and in who’s arms you’re gonna be, so Darling save the last dance for me.” At my girlfriend’s party, I was playing guitar and singing in the band, while she was dancing with another guy. I got so mad with jealousy that I packed up and went home!

29. Remember me

“Remember me when the candle lights are gleaming, remember me at the close of a long long day. It would be so sweet when all alone I’m dreaming, just to know that you still remember me.” I associate this number with a farm in Africa, where it feels so lonely and isolated. I heard Charles Jacobie sing it when I lived in Rhodesia.

30. Somebody loves you

“Somebody loves you each hour of the day, when you’re around dear or when you’re away.” My wife sang this to me. Very beautiful words. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it on the net.

31. I walk the line

“I keep you on my mind both day and night.” “And happiness I’ve know proves that it’s right.” I hope everybody out there is happy.

32. Moonlight Bay

“You have stolen my heart, now don’t go away.” It is so romantic to be young and in love in the moonlight.

33. When my blue moon turns to gold again

“Oh those red lips that used to thrill me so, all those kisses that were meant for only me, well someday they gonna live again sweetheart, when my blue moon is just a memory.”

34. Blue eyes crying in the rain

“When we meet again up yonder, we’ll stroll hand in hand again, in a land that knows no parting, blue eyes crying in the rain.” I always associate this song with the Berlin wall where people were separated. One day we can meet again in heaven.
