Back in the 70′s, when I was a temporary resident in South Africa, I bought lot of The Bill Gaither Trio records, and they were a great blessing to me. The other day somebody spoke to me and said my site was not just about favorite love songs, so I explained that some songs are about love for trucks, or animals, or God, etc. These folks sing a lot about their love for Jesus.
I first heard this song in the 70′s when it was sung in the Roodepoort City Hall, by an American preacher. The people all stood up and started praising the Lord. It felt so exciting. After that I bought Gaither records, and sang that song all over Southern Africa. I saw a car sticker once that said: “Jesus is coming soon, look busy.”
I loved this song too, and I remember singing it at a home for unwed mothers in Bulawayo. One girl ran out of the room crying. I loved doing the talking part that Gloria did. In 1979 the song took on further meaning when we were in the empty garden tomb in Jerusalem. We had a tremendous praise meeting in there. When we came out, all the people waiting in line looked at us with big eyes. I thought of them again when we were “In the upper room” but I can’t find their version on the net. Also when we saw Golgotha, the song: “I’ve been to Calvary.”
This song was also a great blessing to me, and I also did the talking part. “God has always had a people, who could not be bought, murdered, flattered or stilled.” “The purest stream is the one that bursts crystal clear into the sunlight, after it has fought it’s way through solid rock.” So many words were such a great blessing.
4. Jesus – something about that Name
I loved the talking parts done by Gloria. There was always such a blessing in the way she spoke.
“I have noticed in the paper all the bad news.” The songs are still relevant today! The gospel is the Good News.
Last week when I was looking on the net for songs, this song was such a blessing to me, and has kept running through my mind this past week. So many of their songs have been such a great blessing to me. When we were in Cape Town two songs kept running through my mind: “Something about a mountain” and “A little bit of sunshine.”
7. The old rugged cross made the difference
“T’was a life filled with aimless desperation.”
8. This is the time I must sing
Thanks Gaithers for all your nice singing. At one time when I was singing in the Cape Town area, I got a whole lot of The Bill Gaither Trio records from a distributor, and they sold like hot cakes at the meetings.
9. I could never outlove the Lord
The words of their songs have so much meaning. “There were times when giving and loving brought pain.”
Everyone is special. The devil wants you to fell worthless, but he is a liar.
11. I am a promise
Here is another children’s song that is good.
I also have an all gospel site where I will upload more of their songs. It is called Country Gospel and Bible.
